When I started teaching to Japanese students many years ago, some students still referred to laptop computers as noto pasokon (ノートパソコン). I didn’t know the meaning of “noto pasokon” and I tried to find out. I learned that it’s a shortcut for “notebook personal computer.” I encouraged the students to use the word “laptop” especially when they travel or if they are speaking with foreigners, because noto pasokon will be confusing for people who are not Japanese.
These days, some people use tablet computers for work or school because they are easier to carry. Whenever I use a tablet for working, I use it with a keyboard because it’s hard to type!Some people use desktop computers because they usually have more powerful processors and bigger screens.
