  英語の部屋の「ビジネス英語レッスン」は、様々なビジネストピックにおいて講師と双方向にディスカションするというレッスンです。会社の概要、企業文化、多様性、イノベーション、リーダーシップのあり方、そして昨今のビジネストレンドについてなど、取り扱うトピックは多岐に及びます。

  これらのトピックのディスカションには、講師主導による誘導的な会話、議題に関するフリートーク、ビジネス関連の語彙力の底上げ、自身の専門技術や職務経験の説明と言った自身ＰＲの練習などがあります。全体として、生徒さんが国際的なビジネス環境において、英語で堂々と渡り歩けることを目標としています。

  生徒さんは事前に出題された課題記事のリーディング及びそれと連動した問題を出題します。

  適切な語彙の選択(ワードチョイス)の提案や表現力のレベルアップなど、生徒さんのニーズに応じた助言を行います。

  講師はフィリピンの基幹産業であるBPO（欧米企業へのビジネスアウトソーシング事業）業界に14年勤務し、顧客サービス部門のシニア・マネージャーを歴任した、ビジネス経験豊富な外国人講師です。世界中の顧客サービスに携わるという第一線の国際ビジネス環境における経験から得た講師のビジネス関連のコミュニケーション・ノウハウを基調とする、質の高い実用的なレッスンになっています。

  典型的なレッスンの流れは以下の通りです。

  このコーナーでは、授業中内容についての見直しをします。うまく言えたことや言えなかったこと、その他会話力向上のために確認すべき点を指摘します。その他質疑応答や、曖昧な点の確認など行います。

  生徒さんお一人お一人のニーズや希望によりトピックは異なります。企業のマーケティング、SDGs関連のこと、人間関係など、様々なトピックの用意があります。例えば新卒社員の場合、企業の在り方やワーク・ライフバランス、またはテレワークについてなど、「はたらく」ことに関する基礎的な内容になるかも知れません。また、プレゼンや顧客との打ち合わせで使う具体的なフレーズの練習、顧客へのメール返信など、カスタマイズした内容を取り扱うこともあります。事前に定まり切った硬直的な授業内容ではなく、生徒さんご本人にとって意味のある快内容をご本人にとって快適なペースで提供するレッスンです。

  Business English lessons are interactive discussions regarding company profiles, work culture, diversity, innovation, leadership styles, and current business trends.

  Interactive discussions involve guided conversations, answering open questions, widening your business-related vocabulary, describing your expertise, experiences and expressing yourself confidently to a global audience.

  Before the lesson, students are given an assigned article/homework for reading along with guide questions which are discussed during the lesson proper.

  In the process, they are given feedback on how to refine and polish their word choices, how to improve their expressions, and they're given suggestions and corrections to tailor fit their needs.

  The full-time instructor for business English lessons served as a Senior Manager for Customer Experience and worked in the Business Process Outsourcing industry for 14 years. Providing support for clients across the world, he has first-hand experience in business-related communication which he is able to incorporate in the lessons.

  Here's an example of a typical lesson flow:

  Part1(5minutes): Warm up, Greetings, General Conversation and Small Talk

  In this section, we will review vocabulary, expressions, refinements and suggestions that we discussed all throughout the lesson. It includes feedback on how confidently and effectively you spoke, and other reminders on how to improve speaking. It is also an opportunity to ask any questions or clarifications.

  *An important note about the topics:

  The key topics vary depending on the needs or preferences of each student. It can be about the marketing plan of their company, their company's Sustainable Development Goals, relationships with senior management or subordinates. For students who have just graduated from university, some of the topics also cover understanding organizational structures, work-life balance, workplace quality, or remote working. It can also be a highly customized practice - such as preparations for presentations, practicing phrases that will be used for a client meeting, or responding to an email. Instead of a set course, the lessons allow the student to develop at their own comfortable pace and based on topics that are relevant and meaningful for them.

  英語の部屋は英検合格において数々の実績をあげています。受講生お一人お一人のニーズ・個性・興味に合わせカスタマイズする講師の柔軟性と技能を売りとしています。英語を話す上で必要な自信を得てもらうことを目的に、講師が受講生をリードします。

  Online lessons for Junior High School Students and High School students are focused on two key skills: speaking and listening. We develop these skill sets through two methods:

  • 1.) Eiken Interview Simulations
  • 2.) Pronunciation Practice and Eiken Listening Test Practice

  Along with our record of helping students succeed in EIKEN exams, what distinguishes our lessons is our instructor's ability to personalize the lessons based on the student’s English proficiency. We guide them in gaining the confidence they need to express themselves.

  Lessons are conducted with a professional expertise while delivering it in a relaxed learning pace where students can be comfortable. They are not pressured to just memorize words, sentences, or texts. Instead, students are led to discover, enjoy learning, and appreciate its value.

  They are gradually walked through a wider range of topics about current events and worldwide issues, practicing their ability to think critically in English. The long-term goal is to be able to be both be confident and sufficiently skillful to use English in a global setting, as well as utilize their conversational and critical thinking skills in English.

  Here's an example of a typical lesson flow: There are three parts.

  Appropriate grade levels are taken into consideration. Sample questions for each grade level:

  Pre-Grade2 – Many families have pets. Are you interested in having a pet? Please tell us why/why not.

  Listening and Pronunciation Practice

  a. Listen and repeat the instructor’s pronunciation of words and phrases. Corrections are provided accordingly.

  b. Discuss the definition of words and phrases that the student may find difficult.

  c. Listen to examples from sample tests.

  d. Review the script of sample tests.

  Part3(2 minutes)– Summary, Feedback and Homework

  In this section, we will review vocabulary, expressions, refinements and suggestions that we discussed all throughout the lesson. The instructor will provide reminders on how to improve speaking and listening. It is also an opportunity to ask any questions. Homework will be assigned as needed.

  カスタマイズ・レッスンは受講生の方の個人的な目標やニーズ、ご要望に即して行います。ベースとなる会話力、リスニング力のブラシアップに向けて柔軟性を持って対応します。レッスン計画はお一人おひとりの熟達度や特性、目標に沿って設定します。

  カスタマイズ・レッスンを受講中の方にはプロのビジネスマン、公務員、教員、主婦、隠居された方など、様々な年齢層やバックグランドの方がおられます。

  50歳以上の方で主婦のKさんの例を取り上げます。英語は中級レベルにあり、英語学習を継続して英語力に磨きを掛けたいと思っておられる方です。生活上英語を使う機会もあり、海外旅行に行かれることもあります。レッスンの希望として、軽めで楽しい会話をしつつも、しっかり学びたいと考えておられます。その他、発音の矯正やご自身の考えをより良い言葉で表現すると言ったレッスンを行っています。

  最近ご主人の外国人のクライアントの方と夕食をする機会があり、食後はカラオケに行ったそうです。ご本人はレッスンで磨きをかけた英語力でご主人と共に外国人客をおもてなしされたことを凄く喜んでおられました。

  この方のレッスンを例に、レッスンの流れをお伝えします。

  Customized lessons are based on the student’s individual goals, needs or requests. We work hand-in-hand with students to build or polish their core speaking and listening skills through flexible learning methods. The learning plans are designed based on their own ability and in support of what they want to achieve.

  Students who currently take customized lessons come from all walks of life. Some of them are professionals, civil servants, teachers, homemakers and retirees.

  One of our students is K_____, 50+ years of age, a homemaker. She has intermediate skills and wishes to continue studying and sharpening her English proficiency. She uses English in social occasions, as well as when she’s travelling outside Japan. Her preference is to have a light, enjoyable and at the same time, productive lessons. She also focuses on practicing her pronunciation and finding out how to express her ideas in a more refined way.

  Recently, she had dinner with her husband and some of his clients who are from abroad. They went to dinner, karaoke (where she also sang songs in English). She said that she was glad that she could have good conversations in English while she and her husband entertain their foreign guests.

There are at least three questions she will need to prepare for and will be answering follow-up questions as well. More importantly, we practice them in “real conversation” setting so she can be comfortable and feel more natural as she expresses herself.

  Students who currently take customized lessons come from all walks of life. Some of them are professionals, civil servants, teachers, homemakers and retirees.

  One of our students is N_____, 20+ years of age, a graduate student at Waseda University. She also has part-time jobs. She is already proficient in English and wishes to continue studying because, in her words, she enjoys learning. While she’s already very good, she’s also humble and eager to learn more. She uses English in her graduate school studies, and she also teaches English to younger students. Her preference is to be able to use English in real-life conversations, and at the same time express her more sophisticated ideas in professional and academic settings. She also has an interest in Psychology, so we practice her English language skills while discussing psychology-related topics.

  In the next few months, she will be delivering a presentation in English at an international conference. We will spend some time in our lessons to rehearse and refine the English-speaking aspect of her presentation.

  Due to her busy schedule, the student prefers not to receive additional homework. The focus of this part of the lesson is to deliver a speech (on her topic of choice) spontaneously or given a short amount of time. We trained on using a speech framework for her to be able to organize her ideas quickly in English. She is made to choose from a set of topics, and then deliver a short speech about her selected topic. Afterwards, it is followed by a question-and-answer section based on the points raised in her speech.

  今日は慶応大学の学生、Yさんを紹介します。Yさんは幼少期に1年半程度イギリスに在住されました。私が5年ほど前に彼と出会った時はすでにこの教室に在籍する中学生でした。（Yさんは小学2年時より在籍されています。）この時点で既に突出した英語力を持っておられました。

  中3で英検1級取得後は英語でクリティカル・シンキング (論理的思考法)を行う事、そして更に一段上のレベルでの英語に触れ続けることを目的としたレッスンを行ってきました。また、学問とビジネスにおける英語を特に意識して学ばれました。

  その他、世界の歴史や時事問題などを取り扱って来ました。Yさんにとってのこのレッスンはご本人の言葉で表現すると「世界で起こっていることを英語で話し合う機会」だそうです。また、文化を比較し、外国の文化から学びとる機会とお考えのようです。

He’s already been taking lessons in Bellevue Eigonoheya when I met him more than 5 years ago. He was a Junior High School student then, but he already had an excellent English proficiency.

  After achieving Eiken Grade 1 level certification during his Junior High School/High School days, the focus of our lessons was to further develop his critical thinking skills in English and continue to expose him to using the language in more sophisticated levels. He should also be able to use English in an academic or professional setting.

  We’ve also been focused on discussing history, global developments, trends, and current events. He sees the lessons, in his own words, “as an opportunity I can obtain to discuss what’s happening in the world.” It’s also to see a chance to compare cultures, and what Japanese people can learn from other cultures.

  Here's an example of a typical lesson flow: There are three parts.

  カスタマイズ・レッスンは受講生の方の個人的な目標やニーズ、ご要望に即して行います。ベースとなる会話力、リスニング力のブラシアップに向けて柔軟性を持って対応します。レッスン計画はお一人おひとりの熟達度や特性、目標に沿って設定します。

  カスタマイズ・レッスンを受講中の方にはプロのビジネスマン、公務員、教員、主婦、引退された方など、様々な年齢層やバックグランドの方がおられます。

  今日は横浜にある中堅システム会社で管理職を務めておられるTさんを紹介します。Tさんの学習目標はビジネスの現場における英会話力を伸ばしつつ、レッスンを通して外国の文化に関する学びや現在の世界のトレンドに触れること。要は仕事の「現実」のニーズに対応しつつも、語学学習本来の「理想」の両方を追求されたいお考えです。それらを両立させるために、25分間のレッスンの中でご本人が選択されたトピックでディスカションをする時間を設け、同時にTOEICの問題を使ってリスニングやリーディングをする時間を設けています。

  また、ご本人は私が在住するフィリピン共和国の文化にご関心があります。レッスンでは私を通して生のフィリピンを直接的に感じ取ってもらうことが出来ています。逆にＴさんが日本の文化やトレンドの話をしてくださることもあります。他にも、Bruno Marsの音楽について意見交換するなど、話題は多岐に及んでいます。最近ご本人はTOEIC LRの試験を受けられ、レッスン開始当初と比べ55点アップされました。

  ここでは、レッスン全体で扱った語彙や表現、または改善点などを再確認します。講師はスピーキングとリスニング力アップについて助言を行います。また、この時間を使って生徒さんの質疑応答を行います。

  Customized lessons are based on the student’s individual goals, needs or requests. We work hand-in-hand with students to build or polish their core speaking and listening skills through flexible learning methods. The learning plans are designed based on their own ability and in support of what they want to achieve.

  Students who currently take customized lessons come from all walks of life. Some of them are professionals, civil servants, teachers, homemakers and retirees.

  One of our students is T_____, a manager in a local Japanese company. His learning goal is a balance between improving his conversational English, using English in a business setting, and using English to discover more about other cultures and global trends. We try to achieve this balance in his lessons by being able to talk about the topics he prefers and having listening and reading exercises using TOEIC test examples.

  He is also very curious about Philippine culture, and I am happy to tell him about first-hand experiences. He tells me about Japan, and we exchange stories and opinions about the music of Bruno Mars. Recently, he took the TOIEC Listening and Reading exam, and his score improved by 55 points since he started taking lessons.
